Oakwood Inclusion Coalition (OIC)

Member Expectations

The Oakwood Inclusion Coalition (OIC) is organized for educational and community-building purposes, and to examine matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  It is established as a citizen-driven 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to study, promote, and celebrate an inclusive, equitable, diverse, and welcoming environment and community for everyone who lives, works, visits, or passes through Oakwood.

The success of the OIC depends most importantly on the degree to which it reaches deeply into the Oakwood community.  The OIC will be most effective when it includes a large number of diverse and active participants.  Below are OIC member expectations.

First and foremost, all members shall participate within the framework of the Mission and Purpose of the OIC, and accept and respect the provisions of the establishing document.  Most notably, that:

  • The OIC is a citizen-driven organization with all members committing their time as volunteer participants.

  • OIC’s meetings, programs, activities, and reporting shall not be for the purpose of influencing, modifying or suspending city, school, or library legislation or policies.

  • The OIC organization shall not participate in or otherwise intervene in any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office or any issue put to vote before the public.

OIC members shall:

  • Make a good faith effort to regularly participate in OIC meetings, programs, and activities.

  • Commit to following the OIC Code of Conduct.

  • Focus primary attention on matters that relate to and impact the Oakwood community and the OIC’s mission to foster an inclusive, equitable, diverse, and welcoming environment.

  • Continuously encourage friends and neighbors to join the organization.
